Browse by page is not working in my Word documents. It keeps losing the default setting of browsing by page.

We are on Office 7 and it doesn't matter if I am using the .doc or .docx version of Word.
 As soon as I click out of the page and back, my document returns to the top of the first page and the browse button defaults to browsing by line....not page.  I keep
resetting it but as soon as I click to another open document, I have to start the process all over again.  Any suggestions?
