If I select the equation, then click on the italize "i" , all the subscripts convert to capital letters.
 
I would like to change all my equations in my document automatically to non-italized form, but if this is happening, I cannot do it, as I need to redo all the equations with non-capitalized script.
Any idea what to do? thx.

I tried that.
If I select all the text of the equation, then right click, Font, regular, everything stays italic, except for that caret mark after the equation editor (which one only sees if the "q" symbol is activated.
If I then use the italic button twice, the italics vanish, but the capitalization reappears.
What made me wonder is that that only appears in the second sum of my example file.
I found the problem, using your font approach.
The second sum has "All Caps" on for all characters.
So, once I switch all caps off, obviously, the caps vanish.
HOWever, if the equation is in italics, the all caps are suppresses, and the italic letters are non-capitalized.
That, I do believe is a bug in the program.
If something is "all caps" it should
always be caps, not just when it's not italized.
