Computer will not start sometimes, and when it does, only in safe mode..
Okay, so just a yesterday i was sitting here on my computer and it suddenly started acting strange, it was very slow and laggy.
So in order to attempt to fix the problem, I tried to restart the computer.
When I turned it off, for some reason it would not
turn back on..
which frustrated me a little bit, but i thought to myself, well maybe it is just over heated or something.
So 10 minutes later i turned it back on, it came on that time, but instead of starting up and showing the log on screen it came up saying something about checking a disk, it was too fast for me to read it before it had disappeared and went on to the loading
screen.
I thought it was nothing and maybe the computer ust had something scheduled to check, so i didn't bother looking into it.
But then instead of showing the log in screen when it had loaded, the screen turned black and it acted like it was working, but
i couldn't see anything on the screen and the lights around the touch pad had shut off.
All the other lights on the computer remained on, though nothing else had.
So anyway, i waited about an hour to see if maybe it was just being slow, well after that hour I held down the power button and shut it back down and HOPED to be able to turn it back on.
Though instead of it turning on as i pushed the button it just did nothing.
I waited about a half hour before trying again, and that time it had started up, but it once again did the same thing, not showing the screen and the touchpad light turning off.
So I waited about half an hour, still nothing...
So I shut it back down and thought that maybe i would go through safe mode and run a system restore, and completely reinstall windows.
And well, after I did all of that, it still wouldn't let me log in! So of course i was frustrated and still am..
at that point
it would not log in at all, not even in safe mode because it would not load the "first time use" thing.
So at that point i was pretty upset and decided i would just wait until in the morning to try again..
This morning my husband had gotten it to log on regularly, no problems at all, except..
I tried to play one of my games (second life) and it told me something was wrong with the video driver, that it needed to be updated, but there wasn't an update for it.
But the computer worked fine all morning, until i tried to do an update, at which time it did the same thing as before..
but at least that time, since it had gotten past the whole "first time use" pages i was able to get back into safe mode.
(Thank goodness!)
So just about an hour ago, i ran some disk test, and it keeps saying my hard disk has no issues.
So I figured, well that probably isn't it....
so...
maybe its the video driver..
and i had a friend online help me find one to download and try to reinstall it.
Well, after reinstalling, I tried to restart..
and well..
it continues to not want to start directly after turning it off, i have to wait about an half hour to an hour just to get it to turn on.
And now I am in safe mode once again so that at least i can be
on the internet and try to find out what could possibly be wrong with it, without having to take it in and spend a ton of money on JUST having it looked at..
Sooo if anyone happens to know what this is that could be causing it, please let me know..
I am using a HP Pavilion DV6, windows 7 with an Intel Core i3

Hi,
Method 1:
I would suggest you to perform clean boot and in safe mode.
Place the computer in a clean boot state and then check if it helps.
You can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.
This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
To set the computer in clean boot, follow the steps from the link:
How to perform a clean boot
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Note: After checking in clean boot, follow step: 7 from the article to reset the computer to normal boot.
Method 2:
I would also suggest you to update the video card drivers and check.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Update-drivers-recommended-links
Method 3:
I would also suggest you to scan your computer with Microsoft Safety Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.
The Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free downloadable security tool that provides on-demand scanning and helps remove viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.
It works with your existing antivirus software.
http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx
Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded.
To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.
Important: While scanning the hard drive if any bad sectors are found, the scanner tries to repair that sector, any data available on that might be lost.
Method 4:
If the above doesn’t work, I would suggest you to perform startup repair in windows recovery option.
