Corrupt Registry

Vista will not start until repairs are made, or a restore operation is made.
I then run into the same start up error the next time I boot up.
I get a msg about a corrupt registry that states: bugcheck 51.
parameters=0x8, 0x0, 0x8be 23470, 0v81d4afd4.
Does
anyone know what this is and how to cure it?

You will likely need to do a system restore to before this error occurred.
If you are able to boot into safe mode you should be able to follow the instructions at the following link:
What is System Restore?.
You should be able to access Safe Mode by restarting your computer and repeatedly pressing F8 until you get to the list of boot options, you will need to select Safe Mode from the list.
If you are unable to boot into safe mode due to the corrupt registry, you will need to boot from the Windows Vista Install disk and choose the
Repair Your Computer option on the install screen, then choose
System Restore.

To check for Windows updates

Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.
In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
If any updates are found, click Install updates. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
