Does Windows 8 support scanning for Officejet R60 printer?

I recently upgraded from XP to a Win 8 machine and now I'm trying to reinstall an older HP Officejet R60 multifunction all-in-one printer on a parallel port.
This printer is supported in Win 8 according to the compatibility center.
On the HP website, they
say to use the Windows built-in driver using the Windows Update procedure to install the printer manually.
I've done that and the printer is recognized and is working.

But Windows did not recognize an IEEE 1284 imaging device and if I try to add a new device manually in Devices & Printers, it tells me that there are no new devices connected.

Does anyone know if the Windows 8 built-in printer driver supports the scanner in an Officejet R60 device? And if so, how should I install the device so that both printer and scanner are recognized.
